23 & 24 October Activities, Weekend Break

Hi all,

Here’s what I’ve been up to on Wednesday and Thursday:

Wednesday, 23 Oct

-Engineers Nova Scotia Professional Development conference (2 hours)

-scheduled Thursday’s meetings

-responded to resident emails and social media comments

-here is the article from my recent interview with Suzanne Rent in the Halifax Examiner (I worked in Ontario, not New Brunswick. There were 6 official candidates in District 7.)

Thursday, 24 October

-I heard this story on CBC Information Morning. I have included the relevant portion of my email exchange with Matthieu Aikins (during the election campaign) below.

“I have read your petition and agree with the intent. Definitely monitoring for noise is reasonable, and being transparent about the efforts and data are a good start. Until we have the data, we won’t be sure if the request to mitigate the noise is required or not (anecdotally we do have an issue to address, that is clear).”

-coffee with a resident/candidate in upcoming provincial election

-phone interview with King’s journalism student

-meeting with Derek Martin of the Halifax Wanderers

-tour of City Hall & participated in on an online meeting between Active Transportation staff and Shawn Cleary (Councillor, District 9)

-Attended the Nova Scotia Engineering Excellence Gala, the final event of my two year term as Councillor, HRM. We listened to a presentation by Benjamin Doucet, P.Eng. of Dillion Consulting Ltd. about this award winning solar installation project at SMU. I was privileged to serve on the jury panel that selected the winner from three worthy projects earlier this year.

BREAK

-Going to step away and have family time for 3 days for the first time since May. Back at it Monday. Have a great weekend!
