Update regarding crane incident in Dartmouth

Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is providing residents the following update on impacts from the damaged crane at a construction site on Wyse Road in Dartmouth.

Evacuation area

The area around Faulkner Street, Lyle Street, Windmill Road and Wyse Road remains closed until further notice. Occupational Health and Safety officers from the Province of Nova Scotia’s Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration remain on the scene and are being supported by Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency and Halifax Regional Police. Residents are asked to avoid the area.

There are approximately 25 people who have been evacuated from the area as a precaution. They are being supported by the Canadian Red Cross which is organizing temporary accommodations.

Macdonald Bridge

The Macdonald Bridge will remain closed overnight. Residents are asked to seek alternate routes to avoid delays, which may remain in place during tomorrow’s morning commute.

Due to the Macdonald Bridge being closed, Halifax Transit is allowing cyclists to travel on buses and the ferry for free, effectively immediately, until further notice.

Further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.”
